Everyday Care
Nephrite is tough but not indestructible. A few simple habits will preserve its soft lustre and protect the jewellery's connections.
Put jewellery on last. Apply perfume, hairspray, sunscreen and makeup before putting on your jade.
Keep it away from chemicals. Remove jewellery before swimming, hot springs, cleaning or using bleach and household cleaners.
Clean it simply. Wipe with a soft lint-free cloth after wearing. If needed, wash briefly with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap, then dry completely. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
Store it separately. Keep each piece in a soft pouch or lined box, away from harder gemstones and metal edges that may scratch it.
Avoid knocks and sudden heat. Remove jewellery before exercise, manual work or any activity where it may strike a hard surface.
Cords and Connections
Red cord and other woven cords naturally soften and wear with use. Check the cord, knots, drilled jade holes, jump rings and clasps regularly. If a cord becomes frayed, loose or stretched, stop wearing the piece and have it restrung. Cord wear is normal and is not a bad omen.
If Jade Is Chipped or Cracked
Stop wearing the piece so the damage does not worsen. Store all parts safely and consult an experienced jeweller or jade craftsperson. Do not use household glue on jade or its metal connections.
